Hip-Hop vs Rap
There was and has always been a significant distinction between hip-hop and rap. Hip-hop was named by the people who birthed the art form, culture, and movement. Rap was coined by the capitalism driven industry execs out to make money. Hip-hop demands lyricism from the MC in order to move and captivate the audience, the DJ controls the beat and the vibe. Rap requires nothing but words strung together over a beat. Hip-Hop gave voice to the Black community. News was shared with the world about what was happening from the standpoint of the people. Rap does nothing to enrich the community. In fact, it does nothing to uplift, it destroys. It speaks of degradation and the defamation of women. Hip-Hop and Rap are as different as night and day.
